All About Scylla

Scylla Humbert, mezzo-soprano, hails from Latrobe, Pennsylvania. She is currently studying Vocal Performance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Dr. Joseph Baunoch. In her studies, Scylla’s focus and specialty has been the operatic arts.

Scylla’s involvement at IUP has been marked with various accomplishments. As a member of IUP’s Chorale, she has performed at the 2018 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Conference in Lancaster as part of a special program, and has traveled to Prague and Vienna as part of Chorale to give a special concert series. In 2017, Scylla was honored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing for her performance as a part of their annual competition at the tri-state level, competing in the Independent Studio College Women category. On the IUP stage she has performed the role of Cherubino in IUP’s 2018 hybrid production “Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!” that encapsulated both Mozart’s Le Nozze de Figaro and Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia under the direction of Dr. Oliver Lo.

Aside from the vocal arts, Scylla has studied cello under Dr. Linda Jennings at IUP as a secondary instrument. In recent years she has performed in church services and weddings in the Indiana and Westmoreland County areas. Scylla is also pursuing a theatre minor while completing her degree at IUP. She works as a church soloist and choral scholar at Indiana’s Calvary Presbyterian Church.
